Watch the New Trailer for Clint Eastwood's Atlanta Bombing Drama 'Richard Jewell'

Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Clint Eastwood’s upcoming biopic Richard Jewell, a drama centered around the media firestorm that turned an innocent security guard from hero to villain following the Centennial Olympic Park bombing.

Paul Walter Hauser stars as Jewell, the real-life security guard who discovered the bomb during the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Initially hailed as a hero for clearing most of the spectators away from the area, the FBI would later identify him as a suspect. What followed was a “trial by media” that saw major news outlets characterize Jewell as the guilty party. Jewell maintained his innocence throughout the 88-day ordeal and was eventually cleared by the FBI, but his reputation was never fully restored. Jewell died at age 44 due to heart failure from complications of diabetes.

Eastwood directs from a script by Billy Ray based on the Marie Brenner Vanity Fair article American Nightmare: The Ballad of Richard Jewell.

Kathy Bates, Sam Rockwell, Jon Hamm, and Olivia Wilde also star.

Richard Jewell will release in theaters on December 13.
